JD. Wills

My name is JD. Wills, I am the owner and operator of Arrowhead Kennels. I have been training German Shorthaired Pointers since 1977. I worked for Buckskin and Checkmate Kennels learning all I could about training dogs. Then in 1981 I started Arrowhead Kennels in McHenry, IL. At the time I owned three great Shorthairs; FC Arrowhead's Brown Sugar, Arrowhead's Dixieland Girl and FC Checkmate's Dandy Duke. With these dogs as a foundation I began to raise and train German Shorthaired Pointers. Sugar & Dixie produced several fine litters by NFC Tip Top Savage Sam, DC Checkmate's August Dog and FC Checkmate's Dandy Duke. Then in the winter of 1982, I lost Dixie in a fire and in the spring of 1983, I lost Sugar to Parvo Virus. I was devastated. I quit dog training and went to work as a Paramedic. I still hunted and worked Duke and several other young dogs I had bred and sold. When Duke finally died I quit dogs entirely. Then in 1989 after several years off I had decided to come back to my passion. Training, breeding, and raising German Shorthaired Pointers. I train all breeds of hunting dogs but I only breed German Shorthairs.

Arrowhead Kennels is now located on Old Stage Rd. in Seneca, IL. at the Seneca Hunt Club, allowing plenty of kennel space and lots of room to train on the varied terrain of the clubs outstanding grounds. I own several great Shorthairs two of them being USHDA Champion Hunter Arrowhead's Renegade and Voglien's Antrim Dottie JH. I recently had a black German Shorthair imported from Germany and she is doing very well her name is Arrowheads Black Beauty. Bee is one of the brightest dogs I have ever trained. She only needs one more leg to earn her Junior Hunter title from the AKC.

I also write for several Bird Dog publications including Bird Dog and Retriever News, Field Trial Magazine and I write a monthly column for Outdoor Notebook. Presently I am at work on a Book called "Training the Pointing Dog". I am also one of the founders of the United States Hunting Dog Association, a life member of the National Rifle Association and I serve on the Board of Directors of the National German Pointing Dog Championship and the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Illinois. I am dedicated to Bird Dogs, Hunting and preserving our personal rights and freedoms. Please Visit Arrowhead Kennels on the World Wide Web at:http://www.arrowheadkennels.com
