Porcupine Quills

My German Wirehair got into a porcupine this weekend and got a face full of quills. I was able to get all of them out myself I think, should I worry that I missed some. A friend of mine said sometimes the quills go into their mouths and into their throats and also into their chest and can go into the heart or lungs. Is that true? Should I take her to my vet to have her checked, she doesn't seem to be bothered, but now I am paranoid. Thank you for your help.

I don't think it's possible for anyone to get all the quills out of a dog. So many of the quills break under the skin that you end of pulling out pieces of quill for many weeks. I once pulled a quill out of a Brittany 2 years later! I always hear horror stories of quills migrating and killing dogs but I have never seen one in 15 years and hundreds of porcupine dogs. Relax, take a deep breath, go hunting.......feel better?
